BBC Radio Bristol Interview

On Sunday 26 July I was interviewed by Adam Crowther on BBC Radio Bristol about the Bristol Slave Trade walk, which I have conducted in Bristol since March 2019 on behalf of Liz Gamlin and Bristol and South West Tour Guides. The interview explained why I had started the Bristol Slave Trade walk and what the walk incorporated, particularly Bristol’s history as a port from the late Saxon period in the 10C, the Bristol white Slave Trade to Southern Ireland in the 11C, Bristol’s growth as a port in the 12C on the back of the wine trade with Bordeaux in South West France, through to Bristol’s early participation in the development of the English colonies in America from the early 17C and then to Bristol’s participation in the English Slave Trade from about 1660, circumventing the monopoly of the English Chartered Companies, and then formally from 1698, the legal start date of the Slave Trade in Bristol, through to the Abolition of the Slave Trade in 1807.
